mate-screensaver broken dependency tree

Post by prisma »

The last update, a month or two ago, didn't go so well. I experimented with different DEs a bit and screw things up. I thought I would check out gnome3 cynamon etc now that my system is broken and go through a clean install and restore my home dir. However i now feel rather lazy to do so.

I've tried to force update the repos cache but to no avail.

Can anybody help me out here. Here's an example of what happens when i try to install new software:

Code: Select all

p@p-laptop ~ $ sudo apt-get -f install spotify-client
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
mate-core : Depends: mate-screensaver but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).
p@p-laptop ~ $ sudo apt-get -f install

same as above, i'm suggested to use apt-get -f install

edit, forgot to mention, my menus have been empty for a while. No application's index. That doesn't affect me much as I'm a succer four launcher apps such as gnome-do

apt-get purge mate-core ???

I'm not sure I want to do that since I use mate.
