Can no longer type to jump to entries in lists after 201204

I know it's been a while since the update, I've been neglecting the issue for a while but it's really annoying me.
I dunno what this feature is called so I'll just have to describe it. For example, when in Thunar, I should be able to start typing the name of the file/folder I want (in the listing window, not the URL bar) and it pops up a little window in the lower right and jump to the matching file as I type, and I can scroll through matches with the arrow keys/mouse wheel etc. This happens with every list; be it the unicode blocks in CharMap, dropdowns on webforms (or local applications), etc.

Anyway, it broke, and I really rely on this feature. Anyone know how I might fix it? I assume it has something to do with the GTK upgrade..

Similarly, another widget issue is that sometimes if I leave focus after typing in something then return to type more, it doesn't receive the input. I have to switch out and back again to fix it.

Also I'm on LMDX.
