Board suggestion - subscription options

Hey, as a newcomer to this board, I found it very confusing that if you're not subscribed to a topic - which is counterintuitively the default even for topics you've just started yourself - you see a ticked box saying 'Subscribe to this topic'. I can't be the only one who sees that and thinks it means they are subscribed to it! Can I suggest a less ambiguous phrasing be devised, and/or a tool-tip to clarify whether you are in fact already subscribed?
