how to run two soundcards ?

Postby phill1978 on Wed May 16, 2012 5:08 am

hey,

I have an Asus Xonar DX sound card which is running fine. I use the card for my headphones at night, it has a head phone amp in and its all good.
I also have the onboard realtek audio plugged into a 5.1 speaker system for day time listening.

Its a great solution for me, its ((on windows)) quicker for me to choose playback device running two separate than it is to run only one card and use control panels to swap (i have a small windows app which uses a function key to swap in realtime) furthermore with dedicated cards your using things like Dolby Headphone , Virtual 7.1 for games and using the control panel to play stereo to the main speakers means switching it all off and on again but it doesnt remember your last settings.

ohh and the xonar cant take 5.1 AND a heaphone so iam limited. With the onboard could if i use front panel audio but thats..err front panel audio and low quality and the mobo doesnt have a headamp.

SO

to cut that long story short, i have installed the latest supported realtek drivers and i do not see the option in my Cinnamon audio settings list ? i see the xonar, i see the ATI HDMI output, i can only get audio from the xonar ?

As far as i could tell the install and reboot all went ok but there is not sound options for outputting to the realtek?

What can i check?
How can i check it ?
Is it even possible ? (if not then il cry and crawl back to windows)

any help much appreciated
