I can't see Windows computers of the house [samba]

Post by xingular »

Hello,

in a fresh installation of LMDE (64) I can not see from Nautilus the Windows shared folders of other Pc's of the house. There is a folder named "windows net" but it's empty.

But, with this command, I can see the shared folders of every PC in the house:

nautilus smb://192.168.0.100 (here the ip of the "target PC")

Problem? How can I solve this? Any start point? I don't have much knowledge of networks in Linux...

Many thanks!

Please look at the Debian part of this HowTo: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 18#p315218

Strange!

I did it all the stets of the first link.
It is working, but when I shutoff the PC and start up again there is nothing inside. I did a search in the forum and I found this: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... ilit=samba
I Did it, but some times, when I start up, it only appears one of the computers, sometimes all of them and sometimes nothing

__________
Another issue (not exactly a problem, explanation below) : When I try to access to this computer from a Windows PC there is nothing inside. I think there is nothing sharing.
I did this too: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=23169 Because I can not do right click and "share" in any folder of "HOME". Nothing happends when I do this. I installed "nautilus-share" for this, same result.
But no "problem" for this, because I can share any folder by control center > shared folders (my installation is in Spanish, I think these are the names in English)

When you first start up Linux it can take a few minutes - sometime 15 minutes for all the machines in the network to be visible - depending on how your network is configured. It it's taking longer than that then something is wrong.

Try to access the other machine by ip address not by browsing. For example:

Code: Select all

nautilus smb://192.168.0.100
Because I can not do right click and "share" in any folder of "HOME". Nothing happends when I do this. I installed "nautilus-share" for this, same result.
When you say "nothing happens" do you mean you aren't getting a dialog box or you are getting an error message?
