Nvidia-current on Maya Cinnamon

Postby Pythzor on Sun May 20, 2012 2:25 pm

First, I installed Maya Cinnamom and everything was looking pretty good. But, no, I couldn't leave "Well Enough" alone. I installed nvidia-current and that install never completely booted again. It worked okay up to the login page; but after logging in, not enough of the desktop appeared to be of any use.

I googled the matter and searched these forums, but I've seen no other mention of the problem. In fact, I've seen plenty of forum posts and google hits indicating that installation of nvidia drivers go okay with Precise and Maya. So I reinstalled and it was more of the same. The second time, I installed nvidia-current from sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates, as suggested at viewtopic.php?f=49&t=94145.

So now, I'm running Maya Mate and everything seems to be running pretty well. But I am wondering if Maya Mate will take a proprietary nvidia driver? Perhaps some nvidia driver other than current would work better? What do you all think?

Any help/advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there is a bug in nvidiia drivers for some cards. There's alot of discussions about in on Ubunut forums.
if you want cinnamon back and you can get to a terminal type in the following command and it should
revert you to the open source drivers which work fine here.

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get purge nvidia

Thanks, Dave. Since reading your reply, I've begun pining a terminal widget to my desktop for situations like this thread.
