Sony vpcl14s1e all in one PC.
I booted the PC off a Mint 12 Live DVD and had no problems with the sound. Couple of days later I downloaded the Mint 13 DVD and installed that on a couple of my PC's no issues. A friend of mine decided he really liked the desktop and asked me to install it on his PC (The Vaio). No sound after the install. The Mint 12 live DVD was using Kernel Modules snd-hda-intel with Kernel Driver HDA Intel however the Mint 13 install/live DVD uses Kernel Modules snd-hda-intel with Kernel Driver snd_hda_intel. Everything else looks the same under lspci.
I did a little googling around and found a no sound problem on Sony hardware
I was following viewtopic.php?f=49&t=78607&start=0
options snd-hda-intel index=0 model=vaio
as a possible solution but I soon realised the only thing the two machines have in common is Sony and Vaio.
Lspci reports the Audio hardware as Intel corporation 82801JI Subsystem Sony Corporation device 9060.
This device is present as an audio device in volume control and aplay does not complain about no device.
One odd thing in the sound control panel sound effects are all greyed out.
Any ideas
