Check all settings for sound you find - it's quite often something has been overlooked.
I also see that you have an AC97 modem - this means a Win modem and they are intertwined with sound so check that the modem is turned on (yes often necessary for sound)

Right click on the volume control in the panel and choose "open volume control", set your levels for Master, Headphones and PCM all the way up and see if you have sound.

Also, you can right click on the volume control and choose Preferences to check to see if your sound card is selected.

I have AC 97 sound and always have to do this to get my sound working right.

I added to my post above.

Have a look and see if your sound card is selected.

I would think it's the 3th that i need.
You are right but it should say Alsa Mixer and Master.

Can you post another screenshot so I can see your options?

Edit: I want to look at "Preferences".

Everything looks ok. I think the Alsa configuration is where the problem is. I will do a Google search and see if I can find the answer. Your card is a different revision than mine but it should work.I know there is a solution for this!

The only thing I can think of is to go into the control panel, sound, and check out your settings there.

I can not remember the command to set up Alsa. A Google search did not yield anything helpful.

Hopefully we will get some more responses to this topic and get things going.

There may also be a hardware switch for the modem somewhere, probably on the bottom

I can not remember if i actually downloaded/installed/putted on active hardware/inactive hardware or whatever in vista with the modem
Ouch - I don't really understand why but it seems that you can inactivate sound, modem and wifi in Windows so it's still inactivated in Linux. As this is AC97 Windows may have a way to get sound with inactivated modem...
I've seen many posts, mostly about wifi but also sound, where people have booted into Windows and used (=activated) the device and it works when they boot up Linux again....

Just install it and then repair grub as you can find in the wiki
