using the lx terminal

I am trying to put Calibre onto my laptop using lxterminal ,but it asks for a password. when I try to put the password in, it wont let me, it just locks up or prints one letter and says failed
what am i doing wrong please
using mint 12 (lisa)

Which command are you running? Something with sudo? On the terminal you get no feedback when entering your password. That is, no characters are shown as you type and the cursor doesn't move either. Just type your password and press enter, should work.
