Just downloaded the new release and when I run vlc from the menu it won`t open. Here`s what I get when I run it in the terminal:
mint@mint ~ $ vlc
VLC media player 2.0.0 Twoflower (revision 2.0.0-0-g421a4fc)
[0x865108] main libvlc error: No plugins found! Check your VLC installation.
mint@mint ~ $
Uninstalled and and reinstalled and no joy. Any suggestions to get vlc working? Thanks in advance

Re: VLC won`t start in Mate/Cinnamon Debian
you're running it from the live session, right?

VLC doesn't work in live mode. It runs fine once the system is installed. If you need to run VLC from the live media itself, you can use the following workaround: "sudo ln -s / /filesystem.squashfs"

Yes I am running it from a usb. Thanks for your reply and the info .

I am running LMDE in Mate desktop on my laptop and it does the very same thing INSTALLED. I can't start VLC. However, your solution worked for me as well. Thank you!!
