downloads with firefox

Postby moonPeople on Wed May 30, 2012 12:35 pm

i have decided to break up the questions for i have had someone become pissy when related yet separate by a thin degree topics are in one post.

invisible downloads
after downloading xampp and while firefox preferences show 'save downloads in download directory'.
xampp is not in the downloads directory in the gui or cmi.

in the other xampp that was downloaded many days ago, i did a system search for it using the string name shown in the downloads window in firefox/tools/downloads and xampp was not found anywhere.

is there a ini file with firefox that needs to be toy`d with.

are there configeration files that need massaging in connection firefox or any downloading destination from any source http or ftp.

i can go back to firefox/tools/downloads and click the item and then the archive manager will come up asking what to do with said item.
but as far as to where it is ? .

any idea`s
Thank you

Hello, moonPeople.

You configure the folder where Firefox will save downloads by going to Edit => Preferences => Tab "Common" (1st tab from left to right)
If you tick the option (*) Always save in folder [...] The default value will be "Downloads" (~/Downloads). But you can select a different folder and make this your default download folder for all downloads.
If you tick the option (*) Ask everytime Firefox will let you select a folder everytime you download something and not use any default folder.

In order to find out where a download has been saved, open Firefox Download Manager (Tools => Downloads).
Select the downloaded filename inside the list and right-click on it.
Select the action Display Target Folder. This will open the folder where the downloaded file has been saved inside Nautilus (your default file manager).

Kind regards,
Karl

Thank you
i have all of that info down.
firefox did not show xampp in downloads. cmi did not show anything in download directory.
ls with wild cards did not scare up anything.
zero
i finally clicked option 'choose where to save' and manually choose downloads directory and that by passed archive manager and actually showed a tar icon for xampp in downloads.
i could not find any docs on archive manager to see what its internal function options were, are.
Thank you.
