Hello from Florida USA

I have been using Linux since 2001 when I first started out using Debian Sarge. I have been distro hopping ever since trying out distros like Libranet (remember that?), Suse Linux 9, earlier versions of Ubuntu, Mepis and so on. I always fell back to Debian for some reason, didn't like the features of some distros and I don't like RPM based distros. When Linux Mint came out it really peaked my interest. I loved Linux Mint 9 KDE since I favored KDE over Gnome but found it a little bloated with too much software in it. I hate Ubuntu's Unity desktop!
So now I have tried Linux Mint 13 Mate, but had issues with some GTK apps. Programs like wallch and gDesklets will not run on the Mate desktop and some GTK apps look terrible, even Firefox has that Windows 95 look. So I switched to Cinnamon and fell in love with it! Everything works and looks great! And Cinnamon actually uses less CPU and memory than Mate. I don't write code so I can't help with development of Mint, but can give feedback as a long term user of Linux. Oh yeah.....I do still have to use Windows 7 since my work website requires it otherwise I would have ditched a long time ago! I use Linux for everything else. Keep up the great work guys! :D

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Hi Ken, welcome to the Linux Mint forums :D Thanks for joining the forums!

Be sure also to check out the Community website (ideas, tutorials, and hardware and software reviews), and the Cinnamon Spices website for adding even more themes, applets and extensions to Cinnamon.

You can also chat in real-time with other Linux Mint users. In the Mint Menu, in the Internet section, start the application XChat IRC. You will automatically get connected to #linuxmint-chat for general chat and #linuxmint-help for support with other Linux Mint users.
