no sound from Creative CA0106 in Mint 12

Post by Hasdrubal »

I am hoping to get my Soundblaster CA0106 to play and record in Linux Mint 12. Linux is not playing any sound for me at the moment.

I've gone through many tutorials and fixes on different Linux forums - some of those were very good and gave me some context - ALSA, Pulseaudio and Jack

Linux Mint 12 was installed a couple of weeks ago and my audio worked OK. Jack and qsynth let me play my midi keyboard controller and I could watch movies. I had a problem with the Jack server sometimes refusing to run and with Flash videos in browsers. To fix this, I looked at some forum threads and decided to try uninstalling pulseAudio. This made everything work ok until I rebooted the computer and then I had no sound at all.

This is some of my system info from reading:

Troubleshooting Linux Audio, Part 2, by Dave Phillips 2007
http://www.linuxjournal.com/node/1000254

-> uname -a output:
Linux christian-TCM52 3.0.0-12-generic #20-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 7 14:50:42 UTC 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

-> cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [CA0106 ]: CA0106 / Audigy SE [SB0570] at 0x5000 irq 22

1 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel at 0xd01c0000 irq 43

-> cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24.

-> cat /proc/cpuinfo
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz

-> lspci -v |grep Creative
0a:0a.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs CA0106 Soundblaster
Subsystem: Creative Labs SB0570 [SB Audigy SE]

lsmod |grep snd (ALSA modules)

I'd very much like to get into the linux Audio but could really use some help. Sorry for the length of this post and thanks for reading.

Please install pulseaudio again, if sound broke after uninstalling it.

OK, Pulseaudio is installed again through the "Package Manager" - still no sound though :(

I ran the "alsa.info.sh" script from http://www.alsa-project.org

It gives info on the users computer and configuration. The output for my computer is at:

http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=308d7 ... 8c01a2a969

if anyone wants to have a look

Thanks!
