How to enable remote desktop in Mint 12?

Postby gil_happy on Sun Dec 25, 2011 3:18 pm

Hello everyone,

I have just performed a new install of Mint 12 and I'm trying to enable remote desktop on it so I can access it remotely from a Windows box. According to a quick Google search, I read something that says to go to Preferences, and then Remote Desktop. The problem is that I don't see 'Preferences' anywhere on my installation.

I do know that when first installed Mint 12, there were no icons, etc on the desktop, so I had to change to 'gnome classic' as per:
viewtopic.php?f=46&t=89654

Does anyone know how to enable 'Remote Deskop'?

Thanks in advance!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I think it's in the Internet menu -> Desktop sharing preferences

Hi All,

I also am running Mint 12 and recently moved a buddy to Mint 12 from M$. He went nuts running M$ 7. He is an architect and I set him up with M$ Office and AutoCad. However, he still needs some hand holding, which I could easily do if I could remotely access his machine.

I followed this thread and do see Desktop Sharing in my Internet menu, but the set-up seems a little vague. Can someone help me along? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Adler, please create a new topic for your support request, asking for help using remote desktop on Linux Mint 12 to access a Windows 7 machine. That way knowledgeable users will find your post easier  One easy option is to use http://www.teamviewer.com/.
