Linux Mint LXDE- how do you move desktop icons?

I just installed the extremely minimal Mint LXDE on an old computer I'm trying to resurrect and so far it's running great. There's just one thing that's puzzling me, and that's how to move the desktop icons. I'd like to be able to put them in different groups on the desktop according to their function, but I can't. They just line up along the left side in some random useless order. How can I put them where I want them?

I have gone through every menu reachable by right-clicking the desktop, with and without the "Show menus provided by WM when desktop is clicked" checkbox marked, and there is nothing like the "keep aligned" option anywhere.
