I would be grateful for advice on how to install logitech media server for squeezebox radio in Linux Mint - if this is possible. Many thanks.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Shouldn't be a problem. I have been running LMS and its predecessors on various Ubuntu/Mint installations since Ubuntu 8.04 if I remember correctly. I recently moved my LMS to a retired Asus Eee running Crunchbang, so I haven't tried in on Maya. Can't believe it would cause any serious problems, though.

As for installation I simply use the Debian/Ubuntu deb package from http://www.mysqueezebox.com/download. I believe that Logitech still has a Debian repository, but it has been flaky in the past so I just update manually when needed. New versions tend to introduce new bugs, so I usually watch the Slimdevices forums for bug reports for a while before I update.

One thing you will notice if you have previously used LMS in Windows is that there is no tray icon/configuration utility in Linux. It is not a big deal, though, since pretty much everything can be configured from the LMS web interface.

Thanks, KoxxBoxx.

I have now got to the point of downloading and installing the software. However, when I click to open the file I get message 'same version already installed' plus 2 options - 'reinstall' and 'download'. Have you any idea what I do now? I am actually trying to install 3rd party plugin BBC iplayer via the Media Player.

Any help will be gratefully received.

Sounds like the server software is already installed. Once installed LMS will run in daemon mode. It should start automatically when you boot your computer, but you won't notice that it is actually running.

What happens if you point your browser to http://localhost:9000 ? If the server is up and running it should take you to the LMS web interface where you can configure your media library, mysqueezebox login, etc. If it takes you directly to the main page you can access the server settings page by clicking "Settings" in the lower right corner. Plugins can be enable/disabled from the Plugins tab.

If nothing happens try "sudo service logitechmediaserver start" (without quotes) in a terminal and observe the output. If the server is installed correctly it should say something like "Making sure that Logitech Media Server is not running first: Starting Logitech Media Server."

Also check the forums at http://forums.slimdevices.com/ - there's a lot of good info and the community is friendly and helpful.
