Unreasonably slow repositiories.

Post by laptoplinux »

I have searched and have seen other references to this problm but no explanations or solutions.

The repos are insanely slow. It can take a full day just to update the repo list. Forget about updating any packages.

This occurs in both the Mint Software tools as well as aptitude. Selection of "Best Server" vs Main doesn't make any difference at all.

Extremely frustrated and this can be a deal breaker for me. Really not willing to wait days to download and install security updates etc. Note I said "days" I am not exagereating.

Any ideas?

The server selection is only for the Mint repos which just contain a small part of the packages. The majority comes from Ubuntu. Those servers can be changed manually: on the Others tab, select Ubuntu and press Edit, then change the URI with one from a mirror from this list: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archivemirrors
Then please do the same with "Recommended Updates" which is also from Ubuntu.

From which country are you? The default servers are UK based, which is not bad for most people in Western Europe.
