TP-LINK drivers

Postby TIMONLINE on Thu Jun 21, 2012 8:27 am

I've just bought a TP-LINK WN-851 PCI wifi card and, from reviews, expected it to be plug and play but sadly not.

Would someone perhaps be able to explain to me (an idiots guide) exactly how to install the drivers?

There's a bug in the ath9k driver regarding PCI cards (the PCIe versions work). It can be fixed by installing a new driver version.

Please download compat-wireless-2.6.tar.bz2 from http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Downl ... he_tarball and extract the file. From the folder where you extracted it, please right-click > Open in Terminal. In that terminal, please run:
Code: Select all
make
sudo make install

Right, that's the AR9227 chip. It should work.

Could you run dmesg | grep ath and post the output? If it shows nothing, please run sudo modprobe ath9k and try again.

[ 2.114733] device-mapper: multipath round-robin: version 1.0.0 loaded

So how exactly do I get to use my TP-Link wifi card? from here?

Seems it's not loading the ath9k driver at all. Does sudo modprobe ath9k do anything?

It says -

WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper, it will be ignored in a further release.

I think I've now managed to install the driver -

[ 2.114700] device-mapper: multipath: version 1.0.5 loaded
[ 2.114704] device-mapper: multipath round-robin: version 1.0.0 loaded
[ 471.538779] ath9k: 0.1

but how do I get the wifi to work?!
