Does this Nvidia card work with mint? (Geforce 7100/)

Hello everyone,
This is my first post on the linux mint forums.

I would like to know if the following video card works with Linux mint.

Nvidia Geforce 7100/ nforce 630i
It's an on-board graphics card . I've checked the Nvidia web site and they do have a driver for linux which supports this card.
However, I would like some confirmation as to whether this card is fully supported. For example, does HDMI video work without any problems?
Is there a way to test a graphics card driver using a live CD or a bootable USB?

I assume that by "install mint onto the USB" you mean "make a bootable usb" .. am I right?

Everything should work with the nvidia driver. After installing Mint please go to System Settings in the menu > Additional Drivers, and install the graphics driver. HDMI should not be a problem on NVIDIA hardware. If you have multiple monitors you should be able to configure them in the NVidia X Server Settings program, which will appear in the menu after installing the driver.

Install mint onto the usb drive and run it from there....

This is the same as installing Mint to a hard drive, just set your PC to boot from your usb drive in the bios and do your testing.
To speed up installs its sometimes good to disconnect your Internet while installing, stops Mint downloading language packs and other stuff that take lots of time on a slower connections.

Ok.. I tried installing Linux MINT onto my USB using Unetbootin. The boot up worked and I then installed the Nvidia drivers according the instructions given here.

Unfortunately, it didn't work.
what should I do differently?

You first need to install Linux Mint, then you can install the graphics driver. Unless you have set up persistent storage on the USB stick.

I want to install and test a graphics driver before I install Mint on my PC.. I don't want to install mint on my PC in order to be able to test the driver.

I did set up some persistent storage. In Unetbootin I set a number which was around 250 MB I think..

The driver will just work well. You don't need to try it on a live CD.

And if it does not work well you can ask it on the forum - it is usually easy to solve. In case you get dropped to a command-line after installing, please login and run sudo nvidia-xconfig there and Mint will be working again.

Installing mint to usb drive is the same as installing it to a hard drive...... No Unetbootin... not necessary

Insert your usb drive.
Boot your mint live cd.
Choose install mint.
When asked where to install... go to manual/something else.
Choose the usb drive....MB size should lead you to it.
Set grub to install to the usb drive to.
After installing reboot pc... make sure usb drive is the first boot device.
Now you have a fully working mint pc running from your usb drive...... not a live cd type environment.

However, I'm happy to note that, at least for now, the graphics card seems to work well under linux mint.

well, two years later, I finally installed mint. And unfortunately, performance on the Nvidia Geforce 7100 is slow. At least under Cinnamon . MATE seems to work oK.
