[SOLVED] Change from Ubuntu 12.04 to Mint 13

Postby freakazoid on Mon Jun 25, 2012 4:04 pm

Hi there, due to a crash I had to format my drive and re-install Linux; however I did not have a Linux Mint installation dvd and ended up installing Ubuntu 12.04.
I know, I know ... should have asked sooner!
I have in the meantime downloaded the .iso for Linux Mint 13 but now I don't know how to make an installation dvd with the image.
The iso has been burned to dvd but it won't boot.

Please assist as I really want to run with Linux Mint 13 MATE.

Thanks in advance Vincent ...

Do you end up with a black screen saying "boot:"? In that case just type "live" and press enter. Otherwise you can try a different program to burn iso to media, I recommend unetbootin,
Thank you for this thread. That’s all I can say. You most definitely have made this forum into something special. You clearly know what you are doing, you’ve covered so many bases. Thanks!

Not coming right ... possibly a corrupt torrent?
Is there a sudo command like apt-get-install-mint13 that I could use from Ubuntu?

Might be stating the obvious but have you definitely burnt the .iso as an image and not just copied it? did you check the md5sum before burning?
You don't state what method/software you've tried but there's no shortage of software out there suitable for the job. (burn as slow as possible too)

If that still fails is it possible to try booting from a USB? I've done both and they're both pretty painless, if you're not getting to an installation screen
something's gone wonky with the burn process or at least that's what it sounds like . . . .

Edit: possible it's a corrupt torrent, make sure you get it from the mint site and you shouldn't go wrong.

After a lot of frustration and struggling I am now back on Isadora but feels like I'm farming backwards; I would really like to install Maya - can I do it via the terminal or must I download an iso and create a startup disc?

Ok so I know it's been a long time since this was posted, but I finally got it all worked out.

Head over to my blog for complete instructions with screenshots. Took me like 3-4 hours to work it up... LOL Blogger was 90% of the problem.
