what do i need to change the logon screen?

I have downloaded some nie GDM screens and I tried to change to one with thw login windows app, by choosing Local. It is telling me it cannot find a theme file in any of the gdm themes i extracted.

Did a search, found a post telling someone to get the gdm-tweaker. Went to the site, added the repos, updated, tried to apt get the gdm- tweaker and it told me file not found.

I'm running Mate on Mint 13.

I followed these instructions

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:madnessmike/madnessmike
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gdm-tweaker

Here is my results:

The gdm-tweaker is not available for use with Mint 13. Look at the repository https://launchpad.net/~madnessmike/+archive/madnessmike and you'll see it only has versions for Karmic, Lucid, Maverick and Natty. Mint 13 is of course based on Precise. Looks to me like he's no longer doing much work on these packages - his last update was 61 weeks ago.

gdm themes

Mint 13 uses MDM by default not GDM. GDM themes will not work unless you convert them which has been covered elsewhere in these forums, please search.

I followed the instructions from this helpful thread to create a Nautilus script that will convert a GDM theme to MDM. Once converted, you can install the new MDM theme by using the Login Window Preferences applet under the Local tab.
