Updating XFCE4

Post by JPClyde »

Can someone help me?

I'm trying to update XFCE4.8 to 4.10 but software manager doesn't have 4.10, I can download the files from XFCE web site but my linux knowledge is very limited, so I don't know which files I need from their src directory and how to install them.

I know I could download the latest mint but I don't want to spend the time again setting up my laptop.

Which Linux Mint version are you using? Linux Mint 13 Xfce comes with Xfce 4.10.

So, perhaps upgrade to 13 in two weeks or so when the final release is done? Probably if you search for a PPA on Ubuntu 11.10 you will find a PPA to install Xfce 4.10 on Ubuntu 11.10 (on which Linux Mint 12 is based, so you can use that).

I've tried that and I keep getting this error:

W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/xubuntu-dev/xf ... ce/Sources 404 Not Found
W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/xubuntu-dev/xf ... 4/Packages 404 Not Found
W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/xubuntu-dev/xf ... 6/Packages 404 Not Found
E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
