mintMenu is fully functional in Xfce but it isn't installed by default in this RC release. To install it, install mintinstall and xfce4-xfapplet-plugin. Add the xfapplet to your panel and edit its properties to load mintMenu.
Oh. So xfapplet has been updated after all, and users can install mintMenu. That's good :)

Let's move any discussion about Xfce vs. MATE to chat please. This is the announcement of the RC, so leave it in peace for the Xfce users. As you can see from the polls, a lot of users prefer Xfce: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 3&t=100787

Is there a way to have the Xfce menu and panel at the top of the screen like in Xubuntu? If possible, I would like to get the Xfce login screen back too…I REALLY like them, both from functional and aesthetic points of view. I am happy to have Mint 13 under the hood, but I do not want Xfce to look like Gnome 2 :D .

Thanks

Having the Panel bar at the top of the screen DOES reduce the amount of movement of your cursor ( up and down ) , and saves a lot of time in a long editing job. With Gnome or KDE the first thing I do is move the Panel to the top.
I agree , this is a very useful option.

Re: Xfce Panel at top...

I found it easy...

Right-Click in the panel
Select 'Panel' > 'Panel Preferences'
UN-Check 'Lock Panel'
Then grab the panel by either end (Handle) and drag it up to the top!
Lock it again, if you like.

Xfce is now my favoured desk, whereas I was quite sad to lose Mint LXDE at first!
I'm in for this LTS release of Mint Xfce now.
Xubuntu 12.04 also impresses me, but it lacks the sensible update strategy of Linux Mint.

Sincere Thanks to Clem and Team!

How can I "transform" my Linus Mint 13 MATE system to LM13 XFCE??
I suppose it's easy, however I don't want to crash my system, as it is for work...

You can perhaps remove mint-meta-mate and mint-info-mate, then install mint-meta-xfce and mint-info-xfce. You will still have a lot of Mate programs in your menu but should be able to select Xfce on the login screen with one of the three big buttons.

Thanks a lot! I'll try that! :D
(remove mint-meta-mate & mint-info-mate, then install mint-meta-xfce & mint-info-xfce.)

Is there a need to change or add repositories - or will there be one LM13 repository for all (mate, cinamon, xfce - and later kde)?

(Sorry for the dumm question of a bloody Mint beginner.... )

For 13 there are no different repositories according to http://packages.linuxmint.com/. There used to be seperate repositories for other editions in 12 and before.

Hi! I tried to install this RC with mint4win but I could not find the file in the CD. Is the final release going to include mint4win?

Thanks!

Is this something we need to install only, or can we upgrade to it?

I'll check the settings on my update manager to see what I come up with....

# AlbertP

That looks handy. Thank you.

It looks like the same place I got data about switching to unstable / experimental.

I'll have to have a deeper look at "http://community.linuxmint.com"

It would seem to be a completely different entity than the forum or the main web site, and it seems very resourceful.
