Network scanning does not work MFC-490CW

I have a Brother workstation that is "supposed" to be network printing and scanning capable. The printing is working fine, but the scanning has been a nightmare to try and get working. I've tried all the solutions from brother, i've added the printer module to my sane rules file, i've copied the misplaced files back to where they need to be, everything. However, xsane still reports that it can't detect a network scanner. This is driving me nuts. It worked fine in LM 12, but has been busted despite my best efforts since LM 13.

As a side note, I can get it to scan via USB in LM 13, just not network scan. Any help would be appreciated.

Solutions i've tried:
1. Copying over the mis-installed files of the drivers to the correct location (64 bit issue)
2. Setting up the brsaneconfig3 stuff
3. Adding myself to the lp group
4. Adding my scanner entry to the rules file
5. Running xsane as root
6. Rebooting my machine and turning on/off the workstation.

I use my printer+scanner Canon on mint13 via wifi but i guess that's not makeable via xsane.
Xsane gives me as well "no devices found" because it seems it searches for only in SCSI and USB, that's the reason why it works only when USB is plugged... But it sounds weird to me if you say you were using it that way with LM12... In this case i can't help... To use the device via wifi i use the linux drivers from canon site, and launch the scanner driver (scangearmp) in order to use it. You should follow these instructions step by step if you didn't otherwise you could try to search deeper on web...

I gave the web a cavity search. The fruits of my labor allowed me to get USB scanning working fine. However, network scanning is still busted, and I don't have the time or energy to get it all puzzled out. I'll have to chalk this one up to computer gremilns and the like.

Have you gotten a resolution to this problem? If so could you share it with me PLEASE!
I have been working 2 days on a brand new HP8600 to no avail. Yet my prior HP6500 worked great. I am using Linux Mint 14 and have loaded the latest HPLIP-13.3.11. Nothng seems to work.
