Can nvidia games run soley on ati graphics card??

Postby realflow100 on Wed Jul 04, 2012 12:20 pm

i have downloaded the bubble demo (because i thought it would be interesting to try) and it worked flawlessly using wine without a single glitch or error. even in full screen it still played smooth as butter
and my graphics card is barely ati xpress 200 with only 2Ghz processor 512mb ram linux mint 13 and 128mb video memory (not a lot)
is there some reason why it works so flawlessly? when i used to have windows xp the nvidia bubble demo didnt even open when i clicked on it. it closed before it did anything
but since i got linux almost every nvidia game/demo works just fine?
do i secretly have an nvidia graphics card or something? is my ati xpress 200 actually an nvida geforce or something? i have amd athlon single core 2ghz processor and when i run the bubble demo i have less than 60% processor usage! is my graphics card really a geforce or something? :O

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Lol no, your graphics card isn't a nvidia card. I'm not sure why it would be running flawlessly under Linux as opposed to XP, but you definitely don't have a nvidia card (you can always check just by looking under the System Settings in Mint).

As far as I know, there are no games that only run specifically for a particular brand of card. Some may be optimized to perform better, but all games run on any card assuming there are no driver or performance issues.

Well, to be honest, if you're playing any game above 60FPS, you won't notice any difference between 60 and 300. Thats just due to the nature of the human eye. I would say the 300 FPS is because the demo you're looking at is probably pretty old (note, I have no idea what demo you're talking about). I would just accept it and be glad your card is performing well :). Just don't expect it to run at 300 FPS for everything.

You don't. The human eye is only capable of seeing things at about 60FPS (if you can really say the eye sees in frames), with some people arguing that the cap is 100FPS. Either way, you won't notice a difference between 100 and 300FPS. Take a look here: http://www.100fps.com/how_many_frames_c ... ns_see.htm
