in a web browser, if i try to view any video, it is double-time fast and has no sound. this is in firefox, chrome and in opera. at one point it didnt do this but now it does.
How can I fix this?

im having exact the same problem.
i install mint. everything works perfectly. can watch all movies.
but after a day or so it happen what our fellow here describes.
could it have something to do with torrents?
i use Transmission which is included in the mint installation.
im a big noob with linux. i have no idea... so i just reinstall mint when it happens. luckely its no biggy. but its getting annoying...

I'm going to assume that you use cinnamon
Go to Menu
Search Sound
Make sure the HDMI one is NOT selected
