i need to somehow fully hide my ip address i used hotspot shield on windows and was playing a game and some kid got my ip and started DDos attacking it
how can i hide my ip free and safely and have it on a fast connection im new to linux btw

Erm, if you are talking about your internet IP, that is set by your ISP not linux. To masquerade it I imagine you would have to pay for a commercial VPN service or something. Is this what you are asking about?

AFAIK, PPTP isn't really that save, you do want OpenVPN.
And depending what you want to so, keep in mind,
Hidemyass.com (and other "free" VPN services) keep
log files and hand them over to the authorities upon
request, without court order or such.

If you're wanting to be hidden, then use vpntunnel.se (use the behind firewall option). They use Swedish servers and Sweden does not make them keep connection logs nor traffic logs.
