Cinnamon install fails [solved]

Postby c-m on Wed Jul 11, 2012 1:09 pm

Running Linux Mint 13 Mate.

A cinnamon install via the package manager fails with the following:

Code: Select all
W: Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/u/unity-lens-video/unity-lens-video_0.3.5-0ubuntu1.1_all.deb
  404  Not Found [IP: 91.189.92.184 80]

  404  Not Found [IP: 91.189.91.13 80]

Any advice?

you need to refresh first synaptic: unity-lens-video_0.3.5-0ubuntu1.1_all.deb doesn't exist in the pool http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/m ... ens-video/

I'm confused.

I booted up my computer, opened synaptic and attempted the install the cinnamon package.

Why does synaptic need any more playing with? I never added any additional sources or repositories.

Anyway, thanks for the response. I can't test it now as i've just formatted and installed cinnamon from scratch. Through synaptic is installed a load of rubbish like Ubuntu One and other unnecessary stuff. I also noted that in MATE after trying to install cinnamon I had two 'System Monitors' and duplicates of some other software. I don't think having the two desktops side by side works very well.

it doesn't need any playing with, probably my answer before wasn't very clear, it needs to be updated, just that

Ok easy enough, just the same as "sudo apt-get update"

Not trying to be a pain, just curious but why does it need to be updated, has the file it's looking for been moved since Linux Mint 13 Mate came out?

yeahh, the same as apt-get update.
the rationale is exactly that: there's always a change that the file has been moved (updated, removed) from the pool (as was the situation with your example above (synaptic was looking for v.1.1 and that one was gone, the oldest was 1.3) so it gives a 404.
