How to edit the default Favorites in the Main menu? [SOLVED]

Post by Temporary Saint »

I'd like to remove a couple of icons from the Favorites bar of the Main Menu of Maya Cinnamon. Alacarte does not display them and right-clicking on them does not bring up a menu. So how do I delete them?

Have you tried right clicking? You cannot remove system icons.

Yes I have. I just want to remove irc chat and the software manager. Right-clicking either one does nothing.

As I said, you cannot remove system items. You could perhaps directly edit the menu files but any changes are likely to be overwritten by updates.

If you just want to remove Irc chat and Software Manager from your Favourites list ...

Click Menu > Administration > right-click Software Manager > click remove from Favourites
Click Menu > Internet > right-click XChat IRC > click remove from Favourites

But as remoulder says, you can't remove the system icons below the separator in this way.

What I found odd is that I wasn't able to remove items from said menu if I've uninstalled them. My first step after installing LM 14 was to remove firefox and install chromium. It was only after the fact that I discovered you cannot remove from favorites if said application is removed. I had to reinstall firefox, do the "Right-Click, Remove..." then remove firefox. I just found it rather annoying both that once something is uninstalled it's remains still exist in this menu as well as there's no simple "Right-click, remove..." ability on pre-existing items.

Like a previous poster said, dragging favourites out of the left hand side of the menu also removes the icons, even if the applications are no longer installed.
