MATE and "Aero Snap"

MATE and "Aero Snap"

Postby k0rben on Mon Dec 12, 2011 11:34 am

Hi there,

is there a way to use the "aero snap" functionality under MATE?
Under Gnome 3, it is working out of the box.
I could not find anything about it in the settings and compiz is a thing I would like to avoid..

Thanks for your help.

You will need Compiz to enable that sort of functionality.

I have compiz installed and the "grid"-plugin enabled. But the edge-bindings do not work unfortunately. Any ideas?

@xpander -- Excellent! Quicktile is exactly what I was looking for, since the only thing I want to use out of compiz is the Grid.

After some running in circles, I finally figured out how to get Quicktile to work for myself, but I will need to create some kind of installer package to email to my Dad. Quicktile needs a Python run command (something like /usr/bin/python /Path_to_where_you_put_the_quicktile_files/quicktile.py --daemonize ) to run. The documentation assumes that the user knows to press the Ctrl+Alt keys along with the Keys listed in the --show-bindings output.

Would you be willing to create or contribute more details to the appropriate entries in the quicktile issue tracker?

I only started to get my time management in order really recently and, come Christmas break, my biggest problem is probably going to be remembering what needs to be done (and I try to use the issue trackers for my projects as TODO lists).

Update: I've rewritten the README to give clear instructions and modified --show-bindings to also display the currently-selected modifier.
