Mint 11 LXDE resolution problems

Hi!

I have been having resolution issues, namely since installation via bootable usb of Mint 11 on my Asus Eee PC Flare I could not find a way to get different options than just 800x600. My target is 1024x768, which was the default one used by Windows 7 starter that was preinstalled on this machine.

I tried downloading Mepis 8 to get the xorg.conf from there following http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... is#p595276 , but my ubuntu (on my other laptop) did not want to make this mepis iso into a bootable usb and it did not work (it suceeded in making bootable usb from iso's of all Mint distros , although on my Asus Eee Pc Flare only Mint 9 lxde, 11 lxde, 12 did boot, of all possible configurations. I stayed with 11, and I am trying to fix the resolution issue. My machine is (output of inxi -Fc 0)

Using xorg.conf from http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... on#p610189 but changing the parameters to the ones I got from cvt 1024 768 , it did not work, it actually gave me an additional option I did not want: resolution of 640x480.

Using google I also tried to force via xrandr to get the right resolution, but it did not work, giving me 'Failed to get size of gamma for output default' when I used

. When I tried to define a new mode with xrandr --newmode , getting the appropriate parameters from cvt, it also did not work.

Hi,

I have an Acer Aspire One D270 the comes with the same graphics card your machine has. Might I suggest Mint 12 LXDE for your machine? It gives you the default resolution of 1024x768 out of the box, but no 3D acceleration.

Edit: If you are trying to get 3D acceleration working on that machine, check out my notes on that video card.

Thanks, I tried doing that, but the bootable USB does not boot beyond black screen with 'SYSLINUX 3.63 Debian-2008-07-15 EBIOS Copyright (C) 1994-2008 H. Peter Anvin boot: _ ' , with underscore flashing for hours. When I prepared the USB in an identical manner with the same built-in Ubuntu Startup Disc Creator, only versions 9 lxde, 12 gnome and 11 lxde boot, and allow installation. Is there a better way of making a bootable USB? Unetbootin gives the same results.

I feel your pain, I really do. Moreover, it pains me to say this, but if you have access to a windows machine, perhaps you can try this?

I've had good results booting linux iso's on a usb drive with that.

Hi! Thanks a lot, that windows program helped to create a bootable usb with Mint 12 lxde. However, as I saw from the initial 'preview' desktop, it still boots only with 800x600 screen resolution. After install, it also gives me only 800x600 resolution, just like all other installs. Could there be any other way to get linux mint with 1024x768 on my netbook ? It starts to look like mission impossible ....
