Linux Mint 13, No sound from Acer Aspire Timelinex 4830tg

I installed my first Linux distro, Linux Mint 13 cinnamon, onto my Acer Aspire Timelinex 4830tg 64 bit. Install went smoothly but no sound comes from my speakers or headphones.
I have checked alsamixer and none are muted. here is the inxi -A:
Audio: Card: Intel 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller driver: snd_hda_intel
Sound: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture ver: 1.0.24

Have you checked your sound preferences to see if the built in audio is selected?
