<SOLVED> Synaptic forces Wine to uninstall
This way of installing Wine works for me:
http://dev.carbon-project.org/debian/wine-unstable/
1. Look for the list of packages for your architecture (32bit or 64bit)
2. Download each file in the list (there will be 18-19 files)
3. In your Downloads directory there will now be 18-19 .deb files
4. While in the Downloads directory, right-click on a blank space and select open in Terminal
5. Your command prompt should now look something like: tom@tom-laptop:~/Downloads$
6. Enter the following command:
CODE: SELECT ALL
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
7. All of those .deb files in Downloads will now be installed
8. Once it is done installing, you can delete all the .deb files in Downloads
9. Enjoy Wine 1.5.5
----------------------------------
But, when installing another package in Synaptic, it forces Wine to uninstall. Also, in the software center, nothing can be installed after Wine is installed, but removing Wine, Software center works again. Please help!
I am running LMDE 13 Cinnamon edition.

Perhaps there's a package that requires the older version of WINE?Karthikkeya wrote:This way of installing Wine works for me:

Have you tried running aptitude and seeing if there's any broken packages?
Re: Synaptic forces Wine to uninstall
1. The word "unstable" in the package name means the packages aren't unstableKarthikkeya wrote:This way of installing Wine works for me:

2. These packages were designed for debian, you've mixed distro packages and that will always cause problems

Such a beast does not exist. It's either LMDE or Linux Mint 13. Which is it?Karthikkeya wrote:I am running LMDE 13 Cinnamon edition.
I've been running LMDE with Wine 1.5.5 installed for quite some time, but I remember I had to download and install one or two other packages manually because the Testing repo LMDE is based on didn't have the version required. Your Wine installation may not have finished properly. Did the dpkg command produce any errors?

it would be great if you would remember what other packages i need to install for wine to be "accepted" in my system. this was not an issue in linux mint 13 (ubuntu based) for me, but of course i do understand it is different packages in lmde...

Re: Synaptic forces Wine to uninstall
Btw, I have found the wine-unstable package in Synaptic, and tried to install it there, but that just renders an error message from Synaptic, saying:
wine-unstable:
The package wine-unstable has no available version, but exists in the database.
This typically means that the package was mentioned in a dependency but was never sent to the repository, or was not available with the current contents of sources.list.
Has anyone been able to install wine from Synaptics? in that case, what do i need to do? add a repository in the sources.list maybe? actually, i have tried that once in the beginning of my own troubleshooting, but sorry to say i have forgot what address it was i tried. still, i am willing to try again if anyone has a working solution of their own!

Re: Synaptic forces Wine to uninstall
That's where it starts to go wrong. You need the libmpg123-0 package. I think the version in the normal repository is recent enough. Try installing that first and then run the dpkg command again.Karthikkeya wrote:dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of libwine-unstable:

grizzler was right, my system needed that package, and thank you mammique for letting me know where to obtain it! i could not install a previous version of wine because as i have mentioned, it can not be installed via synaptics, but now after installation of just that package wine is ok in my lmde!
Thank you everyone that has been helping in this case, vaya com Deus!mammique wrote:Otherwise you can get it there: http://packages.debian.org/wheezy/i386/ ... 0/download
