Hi
I have been using Mint 12 for a while, yet I have had some trouble recently with Chrome (maximizing flash video windows) and with sound. I already posted on those problems in a different thread... The problems seemed to pup up just after a system upgrade. Before that... everything was perfect
I tryed Mint 13 Cinammon, yet its not working; the whole system freezes when I play youtube videos and don't respond. I have an old 2008 desktop with Intel Motherboard, Core 2 Duo, 3 GB RAM and 400 GB in 2 HDs. NVidia Ge Force GT 200 video card
Installing Mint 13 KDE its being ok; has been tricky to tun it up and have it stable... is more sraightforward with Mint 12 Gnome / Cinammon.
The flash and sound problems I had recently in Mint 12, do not show up in Mint 13 KDE; as a matter of fact, sound has much better quality in KDE/AmaroK than in both Mints 12.
The problem now in Mint 13, maybe not big, yet for a good movie it is: video plays much smoother and better in Mint 12. I checked the KInfoCenter and seems to be getting my video card ok. The diver info shows:
Diver maker: nouveu
Interpreter: Gallium 0.4 on NVAS
(and more stuff)
In Mint 10, setting the display used to call directly "nvidia-settings" software. I tryed to install it in KDE and just does not work: keeps asking me to run under root "nvidia-xconfig", and the command does not exist.
Is it just that... Mint 12 has better video player software / performance, as Mint 13 KDE has better sound reproducition fidelity? is there anything I can do to improve vdeo quality in Mint 13 KDE?
Thank you

Re: Testing Mint 12 Cinammon, better on video playing than 1
I installed most recent drivers of Nvidia for Ubuntu 12.04 in Mint 13 KDE
NVidia X Server pannel now works fine
Font got improved... video playing is not yet as good as in Mint 12; same problem as before updating the dirvers: the image seem to break on fast video movements. In 12... this simply does not happen, its very smooth

I too experienced a little tearing in videos, but while running Mint 12, not fully tested 13 yet.
I found switching off desktop effects stopped it. This is of course is just a workaround which is fine when settling down to watch a movie, but rather clumsy when just viewing youtube etc!
alt+shift+F12 ........ I think! Not on my machine right now so can't be sure!
Selecting 'Suspend desktop effects for full screen windows' in settings did NOT work.

Just solved trouble in 12 on sound crackling: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=108780
I have used Mint since version 9... 10 for a while, 12, and tried 13. No doubt: Mint 12 has the best video quality for my NVidia Ge Force GT 200 video card
