upgrding kernel stuck at Generating grub.cfg ...

Post by Rave[N]Black »

Hi All,

I wanted to update my Mint 13 KDE (64bit) to KDE 4.9 so I've added PPA, updated and run

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
.

As pat of the uprade Mint pulled kernel 3.2.0-27.

My prolem is, that kernel install is getting stuck at

Code: Select all

run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postinst.d/zz-update-grub 3.2.0-27-generic /boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-27-generic
Generating grub.cfg ...
I've waited for a couple of hours for it to generate grub.cfg, but it doesn't.

running

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub
does nothing as well. It does not produce an error or any kind. Cursor simply jups to a new blank line and stays there.

I've tried removing new kernel with synaptics, but it gets stuck at the same point

As there was no reply, I have restored my installation from the image and successfully completed upgrade to kde 4.9.

Even though upgrading kernel breakes nvidia+bumblebee support on new kernel, the original kernel works fine.

How do I clllose this thread?

If you had added the ppa then used the Update Manager or

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
you would have just updated to KDE 4.9 as you intended.

Thanks for the reply. I did try

Code: Select all

apt-get upgrade
first, but it left quite a few packages out. It does not matter now as I've already restored my system from an image and it is fine now
