change flashdrive volume name label
windows allows this but not linux? how to???
Re: change flashdrive volume name label
Go to the 'settings' from Application Menu and launch 'Disk Utility'rfd wrote:windows allows this but not linux? how to???
-> It will list all your hard, flash and pen drives.
-> Select the one you want to change label of.
-> Then it will give you an option "Edit Filysystem Label", Go ahead and click it.
And change The label of your Flash drive.
This might slightly differ in your version of Linuxmint.
Well, it's a bit more lengthy process than that of windows, but it keeps your drives more secure.

I am also running Linuxmint Maya 13. But it's with XFCE desktop environment. And I can change the label with above mentioned way.
What desktop environment do you use?

Disk utility is not installed in Mate by default.
You can install it from the Software Manager - search for gnome-disk-utility
It will then be available from the Menu in "Preferences".

I just found it out in an idea on community website.. The user was complaining about it that Disk utility is not installed in Mate by default, and it's very useful app. So it must be included..
