Yes, this is possible.
Open synaptic and uninstall the old kernels.
After that open a terminal and type the following command:

also make sure your not using the kernel.
'MY STUPID' but maybe others don't
Installed new kernel ok but tryied uninstalling old kernel with out reboot.
