Re: Errors booting from Live CD

How old is that laptop?
This seems to me to be two errors. The first with the laptop and the two others a bad CD
Did you check the md5sum and burn slowly?
Anyway try this
When you see the CD splash screen press F6 and edit a bit
Delete quiet splash and add acpi=off or as suggested in the error message acpi=force
See what happens
If it works good if not check the wiki for more alternatives to add at F6

Once you get it working you probably have to add the option you used to the installed version as well
When the install is complete choose to continue using the live CD
If it is the main version open "Computer" (in the menu) and you see the partitions on your disk(s)
Find the Mint partition and navigate to /boot/grub and open a terminal. Then issue gksudo gedit menu.lst You don't have a password here so just hit enter when asked for one.
You find a line like
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22-14-generic root=/dev/sda7 ro quiet splash
(Of course it's likely you don't have sda7)
Delete the quiet splash and add the option you used for the live cd
Alos add those options at the end of the line that ends in ro single
Now you reboot and should be god to go
