Re: Linux Mint 13 KDE released!
Linux Mint 13 KDE is awesome!!!! I was a bit disapointed with Mint 12 KDE, but not this one! Everthing works great and it has a much finer polish that 12. I have always like KDE better than Gnome too. KDE 4.8 is a big improvement. I like the Cinnamon interface too, but I think I like this better. I like Kmail better than Thunderbird or Evolution too. I wish they put Gimp 2.8 in it though.
Re: Linux Mint 13 KDE released!
What is the overall idea/thoughts/feelings about KDE? I'm thinking of moving from Gnome (Mate/Cinnamon) to KDE since i think Gnome is gone the wrong way with Gnome3. I have Mint 13 KDE running in a virtualbox environment and up till now it looks great! I've swithched from the standard KDE menu to the classical menu but even then, it still looks pretty nice to me.
Re: Linux Mint 13 KDE released!
Is it possible to edit the right click desktop menu with KDE (as opposed to Cinnamon) like I can in Mint 10??Rudemeister wrote:Linux Mint 13 KDE is awesome!!!! Re: Linux Mint 13 KDE released!
Mint 13 KDE is very nice, stable, works excellent out of the box. The only issue I noticed was when I clicked on additional drivers and tried to install the broadcom-sta driver it hung up on downloading it. I was able to go into synaptic and download the drivers I needed and then when I clicked on additional drivers it was then able to install the broadcom-sta with no further issues.
I have to say that so far I like mint 13 KDe better than the other mint desktops. Keep up the good work!!

Re: Linux Mint 13 KDE released!
I Simply love Linuxmint KDE. I used the KDE in Lisa for a long time, but I was really upset when I installed Maya KDE. It was too slow on my computer.
So I had to switch to Maya XFCE.

Re: Linux Mint 13 KDE released!
Unfortunately, that's a drawback of KDE (it's slower). Xfce is great too (it's what I use), but if you had your heart set on KDE, you could open a support topic, provide your computer specs, and people who are better with KDE than I could probably tell you some way to make it faster.mysoomro wrote:I Simply love Linuxmint KDE. Re: Linux Mint 13 KDE released!
Thankyou mint team for the latest KDE release, as usual it's fantastic!!!!!
Only big problem I've found is that my huawei e160 dongle doesn't work but this is an ongoing problem for the last two years across all linux distros, I just keep hoping a propper fix will come along, at the moment I'm using sakis3g which works pretty well....... so far!!! Each time I've found a fix a new update has killed it and I don't want to have to go out and buy a new dongle, one of the many reasons I hate windows is it's love of leaving hardware for dead, linux is usually better than that.
Also any plans for debian KDE version??
Thanks again D.

I don't think so, but Schoelje is working on an unnofficial LMDE KDE edition: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=106426Davetesc wrote:Also any plans for debian KDE version??

Re: Linux Mint 13 KDE released!
Many of us have tried KDE and love it, but for some it's still weighed down by a reputation for being a bit of a resource hog (not sure if it's still deserved but I have a newer laptop so I'm not sure how it is on older machines), plus people still have a bad taste in their mouth from when KDE 4 came out and completely changed how KDE looks and feels, quite like what's happening to GNOME now. As much as I love KDE and suggest it to others, too many people would rather move to Xfce than move to KDE, if they're even willing to consider something other than Cinnamon/MATE.nomko wrote:What is the overall idea/thoughts/feelings about KDE? FWIW I think the Mint team did itself a disservice by rolling out Cinnamon and MATE at the same time without a more clear cut comparison between the two. I still can't tell people who ask what the difference is, but that may be due to how little time I spent in either of them when I got LMDE installed on this laptop. I'd love to see a page, prominently linked to form the Mint home page, showing the difference between the two. At times like this a little chartage and images could go a long way to help clear up confusion. If someone already knows of something like this I'd love to post a link on my Linux blog to help folks find it. I've done multiple searches and couldn't find one.
Re: Linux Mint 13 KDE released!
I use LM 13 Xfce more regularly, but I also use LM 13 KDE. I think the two are excellent releases.
Re: Linux Mint 13 KDE released!
Over the years, I have tried many different Linux distros, some based on Gnome, some on KDE. I generally preferred Gnome. However, I never stuck with any of them very long because it was hard to get help that was useful to a beginning Linux user until I found LinuxMint. Then Gnome decided to drastically alter their interface, which meant I would need to adapt to a new interface, and I have ended up growing to like this release (Linux Mint KDE 13). I have been using it as my main OS for about 4 weeks now. This release seems more polished than the previous KDE release.
Re: Linux Mint 13 KDE released!
I cringe and wanna cry, when I hear all these people say "I'm running Linux Mint in a VM"... OMG then your not "running" anything. Use it to Host your VM's. It makes an awesome Virtualization Hardware Node, pick your poison.
This is a second generation machine. Meaning, It actually migrated from Ubuntu to Linux Mint out of natural progression.
Specs: Linux Mint 13 Maya KDE Desktop. Kernel version 3.2.0-23. 12GB ram, 6TB Storage, 2x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5520 @ 2.27GHz procs , 2GB Nvidia Video Card (my apologies, it was laying around), 4x 1GB Ethernet, 2x 1GB Wireless X.
Its a great Server and Workstation for everything. Full Audio / Video Capture / Edit station.. Also, it's been working well with XBMC. This particular machine spends a lot of time hosting my sandbox virtuals for development, while capturing / editing large video.

Re: Linux Mint 13 KDE released!
I can agree with this. But there's a difference between Mate and Cinnamon: while Mate is Gnome2-based, Cinnamon is fully Gnome3-based. If you compare the menu of Cinnamon with Gnome3 you will see some similarities. However, the way the Mate and Cinnamon menu's function, they are look-a-likes. Best is thinking of Mate as Cinnamon for Gnome2 (IMHO).I think the Mint team did itself a disservice by rolling out Cinnamon and MATE at the same time without a more clear cut comparison between the two
Back to KDE:
I have 4 gig memory, experiencing a slow working KDE, is it usefull to upgrade to 8 gig? Or is my CPU also not sufficient enough? Somebody mentioned that my spec's are sufficient enough, but i would like a second opinion.
Re: Linux Mint 13 KDE released!
I think running linux mint in a vm is fine if you're trying it out (and maybe they shouldn't say "running," but that's not the point). One thing that I've done a lot is running linux mint, but then running different versions of LM in a VM on top of linux mint (say the KDE or Xfce versions).ssargent wrote:I cringe and wanna cry, when I hear all these people say "I'm running Linux Mint in a VM"...
