i have installed linux mint 13 mate
on login, normal login sound is there.
but when i play any video file in vlc or any other player there is no sound
videos on youtube also dont have sound
what should i do
help

Have you installed the no-codecs version? If so you need to add them using the link on the welcome splash.

No i installed the OS with codecs
i made following change
in sound preferences >> hardware tab >> i selected built in audio
and changed the output settings in Output tab it worked
