How do you add items to the bottom taskbar

I'm using LM 12 LXDE. Anyone know how to add items to the bottom taskbar like the file manager or firefox icons for easy access? Tried drag and drop but that didn't work.Thanks.

Right-click panel > click "Add/Remove Panel Items"
Panel applets tab > click Add > scroll down and click "Application Launch Bar" > click Add > click Edit
Click on down arrow next to Accessories > click File Manager > click Add
Add other items from Available Applications in same way .... click Close, and Close again.

Your icons will be in far right corner of panel.
Right-click panel again > click Panel settings > Panel applets tab > scroll down and click on Application Launch Bar > click Up button
and keep clicking it until your icons are where you want them in the panel > click Close.

Everything kinda got screwed up. I was able to get the icons back to the right side of the taskbar by adding a spacer, but now my taskbar is covered up by firefox and windows won't minimize to the taskbar. They just disappear completely. Wish I'd never started this.

I was about to post again, telling you about adding the spacer, but you edited your post before I could do it.

I don't know what you've done to screw it up ....

Post another picture of your panel as it is now and we can see what you've done.
I don't understand what you mean by "now my taskbar is covered up by firefox".

Edit your Panel Preferences > Panel Applets tab to look like this -

I was able to get the taskbar above open windows again but now when I minimize a window it disappears completely rather than going down to the taskbar. I screwed up something before I discovered the spacer to move the icons back to the right side.

Put a tick in the stretch box next to "Task Bar (Window List)"

Totally unnecessary for such a minor problem.
Do the above - if it's still not how you want it, experiment with the list order, add items, add spacers and tick the stretch box where appropriate.
You now know how to edit the Panel Applets list - adjust it to your liking.
