Hey everyone,

I just installed Mint 13 Cinnamon on my laptop for school use this semester. I have been having intermittent problems with my wireless connections like some others on this forum. I have tried the fix for dnsmasq as stated here http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=108075&p=609989, but without luck.

I seem to only be able to resolve DNS while I am connected to my charger. Otherwise, I get DNS errors when browsing. Wireless doesn't indicate that it is being turned off, it simply just won't resolve DNS which seems really weird to me. Wired ethernet works everytime. I really don't know where to start with this.

Hey Everyone,

I finally found a solution The power management features break wireless functionality when on battery. This happens with some broadcom chipsets. I found a temporary fix by disabling the wireless power management script in /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/.

Arghhhhhhhh!
Thanks a lot sqdk!

It took me 4 hrs to figure out what my problem was! I was running over all the huge wide web searching from DNS lookup problems to wireless drivers reinstallations to kernel updates!
Just when my fully charged battery needed a recharge I plug it in and voila!

I was searching for 4 hrs on post which were totally unhelpful because I did not know the exact problem. Just so that other people with similar problems reach this post after googling, I would like to add lot of details here.

I have Linux mint 14 Nadia with Cinnamon on my Dell Inspiron 1525. I installed the wireless drivers for my Broadcomm card from "Additional drivers" tab in Software sources. I have a BCM4312 [14e4:4315] wireless card. Wireless worked immediately after installing these drivers.

After that, I did not test wireless until a week later. And this time, my laptop connected to my wireless router, it had an IP address assigned by my router but my browsers(FF and chrome) were not working. In all this time, it always connected to internet via ethernet cable.

I found the 'mintwifi' command on these forums and when I used it, it always got stuck at 'querying DHCP' .

After lot of struggle, I plug the power supply into my laptop and it worked. Thus, I realized the problem and came here.

P.S: Looks like I am not gonna ditch mint so soon after all
