wacom express keys

Post by thebarx »

Hi everyone.

I was a Linux user 7 years ago, but since programs like Autodesk Maya have no student version, it's difficult to get it.
Anyway, I'm a semipro Illustrator and I use GIMP as main tool. When I had my old Laptop I used to use an Application called Wacom Control Panel http://gtk-apps.org/content/show.php/Wa ... ent=104309, that did the same feature of save keystrokes for tablet as in Windows or as in OSX, but when you shutdown the computer at the start you have to add the key shortcuts to the express keys.

I have looked before a topic but seems that there's no similar topic. I'm using a Wacom Intuos 3. Recently I was looking to change again to linux, because of the crappy support of Wacom Driver on windows. I remember to use wacom on fedora and ubuntu, but in recent versions the tool has no develpment or is exclusive for Old Ubuntu users, and you know I would like to back again and give it a try.

I can't move a step foreward not Until I know about this issue. I'm a little lazy to get back to photoshop, I preffer use the GIMP, seems easier for me, but I really need the wacom express keys because make me work faster.

The version of Linux I want to install is the Debian Edition of Linux Mint, I can even configure a script to load it at start, but it have to work, or should have a clue to do this better.

Cheers, I hope someone can deliver me an answer

Hi thebarx,

I'm not sure that applet has worked since the release of Isadora/Lucid. I know the developer was briefly active again at some point thereafter but with what result I'm not sure. Currently for a gui you'd use the GNOME or KDE one. The GNOME one is in the System Settings in Ubuntu so it should be available if you use the GNOME Desktop. But I'm not sure which version of GNOME 3 is available on LMDE. The Intuos3's are available in libwacom so if you have a current GNOME Desktop (Shell 3.4 or later) for LMDE you should be able to configure ExpressKeys through the gui.

Sample scripts are attached to post #2 on the BambooPT HOW TO thread. You need to modify the Intuos3 one with your results of xinput list. Not sure if any of the xsetwacom commands need to be updated. More instructions for a script are available here: http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/l ... figuration And the Linux Wacom wiki's HOWTO page: http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/l ... gory:HOWTO Table of xsetwacom command changes: http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/l ... gory:HOWTO
