Update Manager confusion

Post by HappyLinux »

I've noticed something with Mint Update Manager that's been puzzling me for some time now, but because it's not caused any problems to complain about, I never bothered to mention it in here.

This is Update Manager, not Synaptics Package Manager or the glitchy Software Manager. I mean the program that has an icon next to the clock in Cinnamon.

I have it set to check for updates hourly, but it doesn't always tell me when there's updates available. I have all 5 levels ticked to be visible, but only the first 3 ticked ready for install.

I've never had the icon change for updates available for levels 4 and 5, but sometimes it doesn't tell me if there's updates for the first 3. For example, I've had level 1 updates on the list, but UM never told me they were available. I didn't bother installing them. However, a few hours later, a few level 3 updates became available and only then did UM tell me. It seems to be fairly random when it tells me updates are available. Not an hour ago, there were about a dozen updates ranging from level 1 to 3 but it didn't tell me. I installed them and then an hour later I came back to the computer and UM is telling me there are updates avaiable. I check. There's one level 1 and three level 3s.

Because of this, I have a habit of manually checking for updates.

Is UM glitchy, or is some updates set to trigger the UM notification? I just don't know. It just puzzles me.

This and your other problem http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 72#p620672 may be symptomatic of a problem with your software sources. Please provide the output of
