scrolling doesn't work in nautilus with xfce

Post by oracle2b »

When I try to scroll inside the window nothing happens, it only when I place the mouse pointer over the scroll-bar that I am able to scroll with the touch pad.

Let me see if I understand you correctly:
-You are in Xfce and launch Nautilus
-You have a laptop or keyboard with a touchpad and not a mouse with a scroll roller
-and you want to scroll a list in a window without using the scroll bars.

I would say that the touchpad driver would have to be updated to support that function. The touchpad is emulating a two-button mouse correctly.

I'm using nautilus with Xfce and I'm using a touchpad.

I'm not sure the touchpad is the issue since scrolling has worked with Jolicloud on nautilus 2.4. The scrolling works in xfce with my browsers, text documents, etc and even the places menu in nautilus 3.4. it's just that the part of the window with the files isn't allowing me to scroll at all.

Just curious, but how did you come to be using Nautilus with Xfce?

Are you also using the keyboard's scroll lock key: xfce does not support that key, it has fallen into disuse for most OS's
http://wiki.xfce.org/faq
----you might find a direction here: XFCE faqs'

If it's because of the newer overlay scroll bars, removal is possible..
http://www.linuxine.com/story/ubuntu-11 ... l-bar-back

You can play with the assigned keycodes for media keys or any key on the keyboard: that needs some lookup time (searches)

Also it might have more to do with nautilus file manager than XFCE desktop, check scroll bars for nautilus, maybe Ubuntu documentation/forums

Well i'm not satisfied with thunar, mainly because it' lacks tab support wish I make use of heavily in Nautilus.

Oracle,

I checked out the tabs in Nautilus last night, pretty awesome! I didn't even know that existed. I can see how that would be great if you are working in multiple folders, especially if you are copying/moving things (I assume you can just drag files in an open tab to the top of a closed tab to make the transfer). I often have multiple windows open when I do this kind of thing, which can be messy and confusing.

Good luck in getting it all to work the way you want!

Caerolle :)
