The opposite of mint4win

Post by jaybiz3 »

Is it possible to run Win XP within Linux? My current setup is one hdd with Win XP and Linux Mint 13 - Xfce, and both are running well. I can mount the Win XP drive from Linux and view all the files.

The only way of running another operating system, WinXP in your case, inside Linux Mint is by
+ setting up a virtual machine
+ installing WinXP inside the VM
+ run WinXP inside the VM

Remark on "The opposite of mint4win"

The only thing Mint4win does is executing the first part of a Linux Mint installation from inside Windows.
During this first phase it
+ creates a large file \linuxmint\disks\root.disk, which holds the future Linux filesystem
+ copies the Linux Mint ISO image to the harddisk plus a few extra files needed for the second part of the installation
+ modifies the Windows boot loader menu so that it will offer a choice to run either Windows or Linux Mint
+ adds wubildr and wubildr.cfg to the boot drive
+ reboots the machine
The second part of the Mint4win installation is executed under Linux Mint itself after the first reboot.

There is no such thing as Win4Linux.
There is no Windows installer option which will allow you to perform the steps given above under Linux in order to install Windows sitting on an ext4 filesystem inside a large file named windows.disk which holds the Windows NTFS filesystem.

Essence:
The opposite of mint4win does not exist.
