Canon LBP2900B driver for Mint 13

Post by tuxg »

Hi,

Has anyone found the right driver for this model of printer? We have downloaded the driver from Canon site and installed it. Still it would not print. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

this chap

http://www.unixmen.com/installation-can ... -on-linux/

has developed a script for this class of printers; I think you can trust him; however linux is for adults and I leave the final decision to you;

I did think I had these printers sorted:

http://forum.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.ph ... &sk=t&sd=a

(as I did on Mint 8) but updating to a more recent Mint has meant I can't use it! I plan another session to sort shortly

It is unfortunate that even though I have posted a request for help on the forum for the printer setup on my DV6000 HP for the Printer LBP2900B , I have still not got a reply from any of the moderators or experts. Neither the links that are appearing in other forums are able to solve. It was working on Mint 12 and do not seem to add the printer in Mint 13. Any one who could set up who can help me or any expert who has a solution?

sorry to hear you have not had your appeal for help responded to;

I installed my LBP3100 on my Mint 13 mate 32bit system recently; it is working well;

Mint is derived from Ubuntu, as you may know; Ubuntu make good help available

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CanonCaptDrv190

the essence is

1) download and install the drivers
.........first the common driver (cndrvcups-common.deb)...........and then the capt driver (cndrvcups-capt.deb).....make sure you do it in that order

2) tell the system where to find the necessary bits:

which for you would be

(Register the printer)
sudo /usr/sbin/lpadmin -p LBP2900 -m CNCUPSLBP2900CAPTK.ppd -v ccp://localhost:59787 -E
............................in Ubuntu 12.04 it is said ........"Ubuntu 12.04 has again blacklisted the usblp module"..........I didn't find this to be so with Mint, so my printer works by ignoring this ubuntu-specific advice...........

I like the above: because by accepting the
ccp://localhost:59787
you do not need the fido etc directories that were needed before;

In post #4 of this thread

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1982917

Sivella, who is very good on the LBP continues the story that I have described above:

3) Register the printer with ccpd daemon:
sudo /usr/sbin/ccpdadmin -p LBP2900 -o /dev/usb/lp0
4) Start ccpd daemon:
sudo /etc/init.d/ccpd start
Test install:
captstatusui -P LBP2900
will open the Statusmonitor window. If the message "Ready to print" is displayed --> all is OK.

Try to print something.

a) I have tried to put in quotes all the things you should copy and paste into a terminal............. you know to open a terminal ......i use the menu command in the terminal as copy-c etc does not work in a terminal............

b) if you get printing, as above; you need to automate the process: Sivella tells how in post #6 of the thread above

have a read through it; please post back for help if it all looks tricky; I can try to help you through it

when I google on
gnome-keyring-pkcs11.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=gnome-keyring-pkcs ... +directory :D :D

it all seems to be gnome keyring issues; I suggest you disable gnome keyring and see if that helps you

.........I enclose a link below that tells you how.............

http://essayboard.com/2009/06/24/gnomes ... word-file/

.....then try again......

Yes pdc_2, i can now print with your command,but i need to retype your commands everytime i reboot into linuxmint.
is your method applicable for 64 bit linuxmint?

u recommend using 32 or 64 bit version for Amd 4 cores cpu with 4g ram?
i could not find the difference much

thanks

sorry Vincent;

I didn't make it clear in my earlier post:

I have now gone back and edited it: and highlighted it in red; Sivella in the Ubuntu post tells how: post #6 of the thread

.....it all worked for me, and the LBP reliably prints each time;

let us know how it goes for you

Dear pdc_2,

With Sivella's advice quoted by you ( http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1982917
) , finally my LBP2900 works automatically after every reboot.
Thanks alot for your help, that fully solves my problem for years.

I have moved a big step forward, looking forward to leave windows totally soon. :mrgreen:

Best regards,
Vincent
