Whenever I select a folder like Downloads or Videos from the "Places" menu, the applications qedit opens with an error message instead of the file browser.
Error message: /home/fred/Documents is a directory.
I'm running LMDE update 5 and Cinnamon 1.6
What do I need to do to fix this issue??

Solved : Cinnamon file browser error
Open the file "~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list", and in the "[Added Associations]" section, make the entry for "inode/directory" nautilus instead of gedit...
Could I have deleted the "inode/directory' line completely if I needed?
