<solved> with cinnamon upgrade came new window manager
Hi
I did the upgrade for my LMDE 32 bit Cinnamon/Mate to UDP5 today.
After finishing my window manager (i guess) restarted and now i have something that looks likestate of the art 20 years ago
This is maximized window header.
I have no idea how to change that back into the old grey.
I hope someone has an idea

Re: with cinnamon upgrade came new window manager
Maybe you should install : mint-meta-debian-cinnamon and mint-meta-debian-mate
And check that you have uninstalled mint-x-theme and installed mint-themes

Re: with cinnamon upgrade came new window manager
I cannot install mint-meta-debian-cinnamon and mint-meta-debian-mate because they depend on pidgin-facebookchat (why should they depend on facebook integration? ) which is replaced by pidgin-data (says apt).
The themes were not installed but didn't solve the problem.

Re: with cinnamon upgrade came new window manager
Can you show your sources.list ?
have you performed all the update process correctly ?
Code: Select all
inxi -R
Code: Select all
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
Re: with cinnamon upgrade came new window manager
upgrade went all smooth.
etc/apt/sources.list
dist-upgrade was smooth too only "python-pyatspi2" was not installed
etc/apt/sources.list
Code: Select all
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import
deb http://debian.lth.se/lmde/latest testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.lth.se/lmde/latest/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.lth.se/lmde/latest/multimedia testing main non-free
dist-upgrade was smooth too only "python-pyatspi2" was not installed
Re: with cinnamon upgrade came new window manager
You should use this sources.list
You can choose a mirror with the new package using this command :
then
Code: Select all
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/multimedia testing main non-free
Code: Select all
mint-choose-debian-mirror
Code: Select all
apt update
apt dist-upgrade
apt-get install mint-meta-debian-cinnamon
Re: with cinnamon upgrade came new window manager
the mirror chooser just gives the option of choosing swedish or french mirror (now 4 hours later french is faster then swedish) and i cannot choose the main mirrors
edit:
i did now edit the sources.list but the apt-get update takes its time

Re: with cinnamon upgrade came new window manager
The problem is that you don't have the right sources.list file before using the mirror chooser... then you don't have the good sources.list file after the choose whatever is the mirror chosen.
Just replace your sources.list file by the one given ahead. Use the mirror chooser and...
edit : ok if you did the edit... that should be working now !

Re: with cinnamon upgrade came new window manager
after the edit the mirror chooser still gives only this 2 options.
and i cannot install the mint-meta-debian-cinnamon
edit:
I used Synaptic to install mint-meta-debian-cinnamon which synaptic said i cant but it did install all the other packages mint-meta-debian-cinnamon told to install
still no breaktrough and missing pidgin-facebookchat
and i cannot install the mint-meta-debian-cinnamon

Re: with cinnamon upgrade came new window manager
sorry, i saw the issue here >> http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 67#p630167 yesterday.
pidgin-facebookchat was removed from testing, so now either the dependencies change or the package is backported.

ok focusing in the main reason of this topic: the odd window decoration:
try cinnamon settings > themes > other settings and pick a different window decoration, in the way you want to install mint-themes as well.

Re: with cinnamon upgrade came new window manager

Thank you all for helping

Re: <solved> with cinnamon upgrade came new window manager
I'm having the same issue except my window theme is stuck on something green. I followed the suggestions in this thread, but changing window themes doesn't effect anything.

Cinnamon is just behaving strangely. If I should change anything based on the output above, let me know. Otherwise, I need to play with Cinnamon a little bit more before I can narrow down what exactly is happening.
Re: <solved> with cinnamon upgrade came new window manager
Allin,
the outputs are perfect, so no worry there.

this though is too vague. better open a new topic and with details about the problem.Allin Gaijin wrote:Cinnamon is just behaving strangely
Re: <solved> with cinnamon upgrade came new window manager
To those still searching for a solution to the problem of the pidgin-facebookchat plugin, I may have worked out a solution. Download the .deb here:
http://packages.debian.org/sid/amd64/pi ... t/download
Then follow the instructions here:
http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/ubuntu-lin ... -packages/
Simple as that. Just finished adding mint-meta-debian-cinnamon!
