external harddisk

when i connect my 500gb external HD...via device manger ,i delete the whole volume and create a new partition under NTFS format..it was successfull....
thn i click ,check&fix error for my EXTRNAL HD ,a small window opens and shows "the file system is not clean"...linux is nt fixing tht error...
now my EXT HD's copying speed is slowing down..(earlier its 30mbps n nw its <1mbps..))
how should i fix the error of my external harddisk ,,,plz help....

Either change the format to a Linux compatible format or run checkdsk under Windows. Linux does not fix disk problems on NTFS formatted drives.
